CHILDERS MILLS

TERRIBLE BURNING FATALITY

From our own Correspondent - September 28.

A frightful burning accident was reported at the Childers Police Station today, a child named John Myerscough Wegert, aged five years, being burned to death in an old Kanaka humpy about 11 o'clock today at his grandfather's place near the C.S.R. Coy's Childers mill.

From what can be gathered, the child had apparently been playing in and around the humpy during the morning, the last seen of him alive being by a woman named Mrs Pitt, when he was coming out of the place and as some smoke then arose, the child apparently returned to put out the fire when the flames of the grass hut must have enveloped and overcome him.

Sergeant Dunne, who proceeded to the scene of the accident, reports that all that remained of the child was but a charred mass of bones.
