Alan & Dawn Myerscough

report from North West Evening Mail

A 21-YEAR-OLD business woman has taken the plunge and opened her own salon.
Lydia Myerscough, of Sea View, Pennington, has just opened her own hairdressing salon at the bottom of Market Street in Ulverston.
After training in Kendal and starting her career there, Miss Myerscough moved back to Ulverston, where she gained valuable experience working at Salon Central.
At the end of February she opened the doors to her own studio - Lydia's.
Miss Myerscough said: "It all happened quite fast after we bought the shop and I was quite nervous to work on my own. I was used to working with lots of other people, especially in Kendal but I've found I really love the one-to-one nature of having my own shop."
Ulverston already has more than 20 hair and beauty salons but there still seems to be demand for more. Miss Myerscough says her appointment book is already filling up.
She said: "With it just being me I find I have a lot more time to engage with my clients and get to know them. I do all the washing, cutting and colouring by myself so it is a more personal experience than you would get in a big salon."
Lydia's is a L'Oréal Professional Salon and stocks all of their products. She said: "I stock a product called Serioxyl which has been really popular recently, especially with men. It is a thickening treatment to make the hair denser, but it actually stimulates regrowth too so it can improve a receding hairline.
"I was also the first in Ulverston to use Olaplex which has become incredibly popular. It helps to repair broken disulphide bonds and makes a huge difference to coloured hair. It is really good for blondes."
Miss Myerscough will be open for business six days each week, including Mondays. Most salons tend to close on Mondays so Miss Myerscough hopes to fill that gap in the market.
Miss Myerscough will hold an official open day in the coming weeks which will be announced on her Facebook page, Lydia's Hair Studio.
