Founded 1875 
Old church demolished and new building on nearby site and open

Meetings had been previously held from 1869 in three cottages in William Hopwood Street. 
Designed by Goldie and Childe of London opened 30th August 1877 by Cardinal Manning. 
Cost a total of £12,000. 
The site was purchased by Mr R Shakeshaft from the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, and presented by him to the building committee. 
The foundation stone was laid on Whit-Monday 1875. 
The schools were included under the church. 
The original church was demolished in July 1976.
